Congratulations to Jonathan Boggs! He was awarded the rank of Champion for completing 40 points of fully painted Cryx and 47 points Circle of Orboros.

As a player of many different game systems over the years, Jonathan (or Xardian as you all know him) has been instrumental for helping build and promote the Warmachine/Hordes game system among RCG.  Not only that but his painting and modelling skills have improved tremendously over the past few years.  Make sure you check out these nicely painted armies and congratulate him the next time you see him.  Great job Jonathan!

Congratulations to Jeff Lamb! He was awarded the rank of General for his impressive 4936 points of fully painted Vampire Counts.

Jeff has done an amazing job of promoting the hobby here in Huntsville.  His efforts in building up the Warhammer Fantasy player base, organizing campaigns, hobby incentive programs, and hosting events has given us all something to aspire to.  Combined with his impressive collection of Vampires makes this an award well deserved! Congratulations again Jeff!

If you would like to join Jeff in the Hall of Fame check out the RCG Painting Recognition Program and get those armies painted up!

xxRCG Army Painting Recognition Program

August 02, 2011, 07:41:15 AM by Sulfurious | Views: 1009 | Comments: 45

RCG News
How impressive is it for two fully painted armies to meet on the tabletop for battle, particularly with painted terrain and theme components like for Storm of Magic?  Have you attended an event where you heard the name of another game club, and immediately knew they would be great players with awesome looking armies?  Well, this is one of the goals of the new Rocket City Gamers:  to become recognized in the gaming community four our great players, awesome painting skills, and sportsmanship.  This painting effort is to help us meet part of this overall recognition.

To start with, the RCG army painting recognition program will focus on three of our mainstay games:  Warhammer 40K, Warhammer Fantasy, and Warmachines/Hordes.  It is not limited to just those game systems and we will add in other game systems (such as Lord of  the Rings, Flames of War, Battlefleet Gothic, BloodBowl, etc) once there is enough gained interest and player base, and more importantly, once someone has painted enough models to fully define the criteria for that particular game system.

For each game system there are two levels of recognition. First, is the Champion Recognition which is earned for painting a complete army in that game system.  This in itself is more than enough points to field an army in that game system and to earn the respect of your fellow gamers for an accomplishment well done.  But for those that are inclined to accomplish even more, there is the General Recognition level.  This level is for those that take it to the extreme, almost twice the required amount to play a game, a full epic sized army!  And thus earns the recognition of the highest honor for painting!

-   Warhammer 40k   Warhammer Fantasy   Warmachine-Hordes
Champion
2500 Points
3000 Points
40 Points
General
3500 Points
4000 Points
90 Points

General of the Army  - for completing General recognition for multiple armies in the same game system
Supreme General – earned for completing General recognition in more than one game system

How do you earn these recognitions?  You have to paint the amount of points specified above.  Painted is defined as every model with at least 3 colors (the primer doesn’t normally count as one of those colors), and be properly based (painting the GW base green doesn’t count as based, it must contain something on it, like sand, flock, skulls, tiles, etc).

The point value of the model or unit is calculated from the applicable army book/codex/rule book.  The spirit and intent is to paint each model to the WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) quality and calculate points based on that.  Therefore, you have to paint or add something to a model or unit to get upgraded points.  For example, if you paint a unit of 10 tomb guard, there is an exact point value for that in the tomb king’s army book.  If you paint a standard, musician, and champion, there is a point value for those upgrades.  However, to upgrade the cost to include a magic banner, then you have to appropriately paint the banner to show that it is not just a normal banner but instead is the magic banner.  Other items that can be modeled and painted on a figure can be added to the cost of the character or unit, but it must be seen on the model, for example upgrading to halberds.  Also, any upgrades to a model that do not change the appearance do not count for the points, such as if the basic figure is a chaos sorcerer, the basic cost is for a level 1 figure.  Upgrading it to level 2 does not change the figure; therefore you do not get to count those points and instead only get the points for the basic model.  However if you model a scroll on the model somehow then you could add points to your total for a dispel scroll for example.

You also get credit for expansion books, like Warhammer Fantasy Storm of Magic and 40K Apocalypse.  So you can include legal components of those if they can be fielded in your army, and you earn the points assigned to them in the expansion book.  In addition you can get credit for themed army terrain, like Storm of Magic fulcrums, may be added as well.  Terrain pieces count as 100 points.

Yes, you can earn accomplishments for multiple armies, or even multiple systems.  Although some specific figures can be used in different armies, or even game systems, they only count for the first one they are painted for.  For example Games Workshop Daemons can be used in Fantasy and 40K, but when you paint and base it, it is assigned to that one army, so it only counts for that one army.  You must paint a new figure to count it for a new army.

Once you have painted enough figures and points to meet the criteria listed above, then you can contact one of the program administrators to arrange to have your photo taken and earn your proper recognition.  Army painting recognition photos are always taken at a RCG event, such as the Madison Courthouse game nights.  You must bring your entire army, and display it to have your photo taken with it along with the RCG logo.  This photo will then be posted on the RCG forum to give you the proper recognition that you have earned!  In addition, the RCG forum administrators will give you a badge that you can put on your signature block to recognize you for your accomplishment.

xxNew Site Switchover

RCG News
Sunday evening I will begin the process of moving the site over to a new host.  During this time, the HAAWGS forums will be unavailable.

After the switch is done, the new site will be accessable by going to http://rocketcitygamers.com.  Going to HAAWGS.net should also redirect you to the new site but if I forget for some reason to do that, just go to the new site.

The goal is to have everything up and operational with the exception of some minor things like logos and graphical art type things.  The good news is that we have some folks working on a few Rocket City Gamers logos and they are looking pretty nice.
